Liberate Hawaii

By International Law, is the Status of Hawai’i:

Occupied Country or U.S. State?

This is the central question that is roiling the political life of Hawai’i at the end of 2014. You probably thought the matter long “settled” by 1959 “statehood,” right? WRONG! Subsequent to 25 years of intense legal and historical research, the answer is unequivocally “occupied country.” The US government, of course, continues to bluster and to militarize the land.1

All must agree that Hawai’i was an independent country for most of the entire 19th century, with the US, England, France and a host of other countries not only recognizing its independence, but also having treaties to that effect that have NEVER been cancelled. Hawai’i had, like the major European powers, embassies and consulates in numerous countries.

The book, Liberate Hawai’i! provides both the historical context and the contemporary evidence of robust resistance to US dominance. The goal is clear: regaining full independent sovereignty in the relatively near future. It is an issue that has energized a whole new generation of national liberation activism about which few US citizens have even a clue.

1. Note: with its 118 military installations the U.S. military uses over 20% of the land mass of Hawai’i. Given that the 20% number includes many steep mountains, the U.S. military actually occupies a far greater percentage of Hawai’i’s usable land.
